The Next 100 — How Today's Young Keepers Are Shaping Tomorrow
This page is not a biography of a keeper who does not exist.
The Top 100 list on this site is finished: Yashin to Onana, Banks to Kaihori, N'Kono to Kawashima. Those pages are careers. What follows is the job those careers left standing. The position is still eight yards wide. The week around it is not the week Grosics or Banks inherited. Here is what is moving, why it is moving, and what to do on Saturday if you are still learning the gloves.
Do not treat this as a 2026 tournament dump. Those shirts have their own category. Do not treat it as a scouting list of invented prospects. The names below are real keepers already in first-team weeks. They are examples of a method, not a promise that a highlight reel becomes a number one.
What the list actually taught
A hundred pages is a lot of Saturday. The useful residue is smaller than the cap counts.
The hold came first. Yashin, Banks, Zoff, Kahn: organise the box, stay large, do not donate the near post. Every later ask sits on that one. A man who leaves the line and cannot keep a low shot is still a hole.
The grass in front of the goal became the keeper's. Grosics walked into it. Neuer made the walk a default. Ederson and Onana made the next pass a first duty. The back four can sit higher because someone behind it will sweep. That is now an ordinary job description at the clubs that pay the most.
Longevity was a method, not a birthday. Buffon, El-Hadary, Al-Deayea, Kawashima, Király: the long-cap is a week you did not throw away after a 4–0. Young keepers still chase the clip. The list is full of people who treated the next contact as the same work.
A continental last line is a world last line. N'Kono, Enyeama, Barry, Lee Woon-jae, Kaihori: the method travelled. Europe had to copy it, or a host summer had to write it down. Do not file those pages as extras.
What keepers learned from the hundred: steal the week, not the speech. The save that films well is rarely the change. The change is the habit a coach could still write down in May.
How the position is moving
Three asks are getting louder. None of them deleted the first one.
Distribution as a weekly order. A restart is now a planned start. Guillaume Restes made that look ordinary in Ligue 1 as a teenager at Toulouse — first team from 2023, France under-21s, the ball at his feet before the dive. Lucas Chevalier did the same at Lille, then took the Paris Saint-Germain shirt. Anatoliy Trubin, 1.99 m, went from Shakhtar Donetsk to Benfica in 2023 and is priced as a passer who can still fill the goal. A bigger athletic profile. The modern number one is asked to cover more grass, earlier, under a higher line. Speed off the line, a claim on the six-yard box, and a body that can repeat both twice a week. Trubin's height is useful only if the feet still work. Verbruggen's frame is useful only if the decision is early. Athleticism without judgment is a highlight and a red card.
Youth pathways that start before fourteen. Our academies page is the syllabus: specialist coaches on age groups, feet as well as handling, a real pair instead of a leftover outfielder. Zion Suzuki is a public name from the Japanese pathway Frans Hoek helped write — Urawa, Sint-Truiden, Parma, a Japan shirt. Treat him as proof a country can build keepers on purpose. Kawashima's page is the long-cap that country already had. Suzuki is the next week, not a replacement biography.
What to steal: name the job your Saturday actually asks. A side that boots it long still lives in a waiting-room week — train the claim and the voice. A side that sits high lives in Neuer's grass week — train the sweep. A side that plays out lives in Ederson's and Onana's pass week — train the first touch under a closed-down striker. Do not steal the clip from the wrong year.
The pair still has a job
A modern week does not change latex.
Soft foam helps a stretched hand keep a shot that arrives late and low after you have just played the first pass. Sweat salt, dirt, and a glazed sheet turn that hold into a rebound. If the high-quality foam is still there, wash the gloves, let them air-dry, and apply Keeper Balm. Do not dunk. That conditions new foam and restores dried latex. Pros use it too. The list is full of keepers who treated the pair as a tool. The next hundred will not get a pass because the feet improved.
What to do next
Train the hold on the same day you train the pass. A sweeper who spills the low one is still a problem. One session: back-pass, first touch, then a shot you have to keep. Do not film only the kick.
Name the space behind your defence. If the line sits high, your starting position is already a decision. If it sits deep, stay on the paint and organise the box. Copy the ask in front of you, not a clip from a different league.
Look after the pair the night you change. Wash. Air-dry. Apply Keeper Balm when the foam is dry and still there. That is ordinary care, not the thesis of this page. A dead palm will not hold the next hundred any better than it held the last.
Read the modern game as a set of jobs, not a mood. Distribution, athletic cover, a pathway that starts early: those are trained habits. Restes, Chevalier, Trubin, Verbruggen, and Suzuki are already in the week. Your version is the same list at whatever level you play — hold, sweep if asked, start the next attack if asked, and do not donate the cheap one.
The list is closed. The week is not.
Yashin came off his line. Banks made the save a picture. Neuer made the sweep the default. Kaihori made a women's last line a World Cup you could still take. Barry made a deputy final a penalty file. Kawashima made a Japanese long-cap a European Saturday. Onana made the African last line a press-breaker. The next hundred will add names. They will not add a new law. Eight yards, a ball, a palm.
Young keepers still chase the dive that films well. The hundred pages behind this one are the opposite lesson: stay in the work. Train the habit your Saturday asks. Care for the pair you have. Read the game in front of you. Then do it again the week after.
